Here at TapSongz, our team has had an excellent experience writing feature articles on up and coming talent from a variety of genres and we hope you have enjoyed reading them! We have been contacted by many artists and will continue to post feature articles on aspiring artists with the most potential!
For the month of April, TapSongz had the honor of speaking with a well-known artist who has already established a large fan base. For this rapper, it all started in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he began rapping at an early age. Little did he know that his talent would carry him to the big stage, where he has made the most out of this rare opportunity.
Our TapSongz team is proud to announce the April Artist of the Month is Chris Webby, an artist devoted to the game and even more so to his fans. Growing up, Webby was always listening to music and artists of all genres. He had a deep appreciation for music, partly due to the fact that his dad is a professional guitar player. In our exclusive interview, we were able to get the inside track on how Webby turned his freestyle rapping talent into a successful career. “I started rapping in elementary school when I was 11 years old,” Webby recalled. “I wrote music and always wanted to rap. I would practice making music and I’d always rap for English projects. I was really focused and enjoyed it,” Webby said. He began recording some of his freestyles, which eventually became part of his first mixtape. Fast forward several years later and his potential is only starting to blossom.
Webby’s debut mixtape “The White Noise LP” was released in 2009, featuring his first hit single “La La La”. Even to this day, Webby and his long-time fans have a love for his first hit song. “My favorite song to play at my concerts is La La La. It was really the first impression of me and it’s over five years old. It’s back in the MySpace stage of my career, but I always have to play it,” Webby jokingly told our team. The mixtape catapulted Webby into the hip-hop spotlight as a rapper with a bright future ahead. So far in his career, Webby has released seven mixtapes and two EP’s, but it is his next project that he hopes will please his fans the most.
In recent months, Webby has been touring across the U.S., traveling around the Midwest and out East, including New England and Connecticut. He has been hard at work with his first album “Chemically Imbalanced” that is set to come out this spring. “My album is in the last stages of production and I’m very excited to release it. It’ll have some good features and has awesome production,” Webby said. Webby has been working with producer Scott Storch for the new album. Storch, who was actually one of the first members of the hip-hop group The Roots as a keyboard player, has turned into an outstanding producer. Storch has produced hit records with artists such as Beyoncé, 50 Cent, The Game, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Pink. Webby told our team that his production is insane and he has been a huge help for the upcoming album. “I want to make the album the best thing that I’ve ever done. I have spent a ton of time on it, but I think it’ll make my fans happy,” Webby said. Once the album is released, Webby said he’ll take it from there and see where the album goes, but believes it will be appreciated.
Webby has constantly been on-the-go during the past couple of months with his tour and made an appearance at South by Southwest (SXSW), a popular music festival in Texas, but has enjoyed every bit of it. “When I was a kid I would look up to certain artists and now I’m meeting those artists down the line. That’s easily the coolest part about my job,” Webby said. Our TapSongz team will be sure to write up a review of “Chemically Imbalanced” once it is released later this spring. We encourage all of our viewers to check out Chris Webby’s website, Twitter and Facebook with the links below to keep up-to-date with his latest tour and album! Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading as we continue finding tomorrow’s greatest music today!
