While 2020 has been off to a crazy start, it has been fun to see some artists continue to push through with their creativity and display their talent as a musician and artist. New music has helped us all through difficult times and it has become especially important during a pandemic. One such artist we recently came across is Blezzy Gale, an extremely talented rapper out of Nigeria. We had the opportunity to interview him to learn more about his recent releases and plans for the future!
"I was born and raised in Abeokuta North Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria," Blezzy Gale told our TapSongz Team. While he only started releasing music in the last couple of years, Blezzy has plenty of influences. "I started music officially this year, but recorded a track back in 2017, which was a cover of Lil Wayne's Mirror Instrumental," Gale recalled. "Those days I spent most of my time writing songs because while growing up I discovered my artistic side of writing stories and drawing comics for fun."
One of the most interesting things about Blezzy Gale is where his artist name came from - we absolutely love it! "I took my artist name Blezzy Gale, which is 'Blezzy' from my birth name Blessing and 'Gale' means a very strong wind. Putting the two together you get 'A very strong wind of blessing", the artist said.
Growing up Blezzy loved a variety of influences including Drake, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Jay Z, and the Chainsmokers. "They all influenced me, but Juice Wrld inspired me through his music last year he made me kick into music and I was like oh man he's making waves. Locally he sounds like Dbanji, Don Jazzy, Wizkid, Olamide, and Davido," Blezzy said. We are impressed with Gale's knowledge of so many genres of different artists!
Fast forward to today and Gale has taken his inspirations and turned them into reality working on his own music. "I released a track mid-March this year titled 'D.Y.C.' though it's a cover of Roddy Ricch Die Young's hit." The three minute track is amazing showing Gale's full talent and potential as a rapper. The hip-hop flow is so well done and the rising artist is able to create such a unique vibe. "The song is in Pidgin English and Yoruba language where I talk about my struggles that I have been through in past years and stuff," Blezzy said. We love the range of low to high pitch vocals which go along so well with the production.
"Shortly after I recorded my first official single in March before the lockdown started titled 'Samiye (Corona Virus)'. The song is an Afrobeat-Gospel related tune blended with the pop sound that has good strings and drums praying for us all that Corona Virus does not ever kill us," he said. The track was released in May on Audiomack alongside the video on YouTube. The drums are amazing and a perfect combination with Blezzy's vocals. The track has a tropical spin and is extremely unique, which is so refreshing in an industry where too many tracks sound the same. Definitely give it a listen below!
As for future plans, Gale is looking to keep the momentum going with releasing new music. "My goal is to release more hits this year throughout as I am still coming up. I actually need financial backup for my album to drop as it isn't easy, but just have to take it slowly," Blezzy said. "In the future and after COVID-19 I would love to perform in New York city, Chicago, and Los Angeles."
Finally, Blezzy is looking to change the game and introduce something brand new to the industry. "I am bringing a new genre that no one has ever done. You know music is spiritual, music is life, music is a gift," Gale told our TapSongz Team. We couldn't agree more. Keep an eye out for #AfroPopRap which is a mixture of AfroBeat, Rap, and Pop music.
We can't wait to see what Gale is able to accomplish throughout his music journey as the rising artist has so much potential! Give his tracks a listen below and be sure to support him on social media to stay up to date with his latest releases! We already can't wait to hear his next project!
