Boy & Bear is back at it again. After releasing their new album “Harlequin Dream” in October of 2013, the five-piece group out of Sydney, Australia is finishing up their summer tour and recently announced U.S. headlining dates for their fall tour. In our exclusive interview with guitarist and singer Killian Gavin, our TapSongz Team was able to gain an insight about the band and their current tour.
Growing up to the likes of John Lennon, Gavin was always interested in music at a young age. “I started on piano, but moved to guitar when I was 12. Now I only play guitar,” Gavin said. His passion for music continued and eventually met up with four others to form Boy & Bear. The band, which features sounds similar to Fleetwood Mac, consists of guitars, drums, keys, mandolin, and bass to accompany soft vocals.
Boy & Bear released their first album “Moonfire” in August of 2011. With hit songs “Feeding Line” and “Milk & Sticks” the project was a stellar debut for the Aussie folk group. The record won multiple ARIAs, Australia’s Grammys, and propelled the band into an international spotlight. Since releasing “Moonfire” the band has come a long way and Gavin recalls enjoying every bit about performing as a group. “I think you share the weight of every performance and if you’re having a bad night someone else can take the reigns and bring it home.”
The band’s latest album “Harlequin Dream” was an instant hit with fans across the world. The project’s lead single “Southern Sun” showcases front man Dave Hoskins vocals and became a song that Gavin loves to perform the most. “Recording the album in Sydney was great. We felt we wanted to make something we were really proud of right on our doorstep,” Gavin told our team. “We wrote the songs over about two years. Recorded it over eight months and took a further three months to release it,” he added.
With two full-length albums now released, Boy & Bear has kept busy touring this summer. After attending Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, the band will be covering a variety of venues and festivals in many Southern states and across the Midwest. Boy & Bear will also be making their first appearance in New Zealand in over two years, with multiple performances scheduled for September! While Gavin has really enjoyed touring with the band, he tries to keep busy with the little free time he has. “I grew up on the coast on Sydney so I’ve always been a surfer, and I love my soccer,” he said. We encourage all of our viewers to give Boy & Bear’s music a listen below as well as follow the band’s social media to keep updated with their current tour and future releases! Here at TapSongz, we hope you have enjoyed this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow’s greatest music today!
