Check'a Fred has grown immensely as an artist since we first began talking with him over a year ago. The rising rapper, who previously went by Young Check'a, is releasing a fresh mixtape on December 1! We had the opportunity to catch up with the Hip-Hop artist to learn more about his upcoming project and big plans for 2018.
First off, the name change is something that many artists go through. "Basically when I thought about changing it was the long time effect it would have. If you look at artists who are considered legends none of them have 'Young' or 'Lil' in their name with the exception of Lil Wayne and I want to be remembered in the long term so I changed it to Check'a Fred and also to be true to myself," he told our TapSongz Team.
Check'a Fred made sure to put his best foot forward with the new project. Over the last year the young artist graduated from high school and is on his way to college. "For the next project I taught myself how to produce so half of the project is produced by me and the other half is producers I met online or around my area, but there are no other rap verses featured in this project." As Check'a Fred ramps up for the release he dropped two fresh new singles on SoundCloud. Our TapSongz Team is a big fan of "Daydream" featuring Steevo. "It came together around March 2016 I met Steevo in a talent show at my school where we both were contestants and I liked his talent so I quickly hit him up about doing a song and hopefully making a label in the future. Around April he came to my studio and I had this beat and I wrote the verses and the chorus for him to sing and we made the song," Check'a Fred said. We think the song came together extremely well as we love the collaboration between the two artists.
As for the new project, Check'a Fred put everything he had into his new mixtape. "I feel my fans will feel more connected to me with this project because I talk about things that I went through being a teenager who wants to be a hip-hop artists and the stereotypes and hate that comes along with that process. People who want to be artists will definitely enjoy, but people who aren't artists can still relate to the subjects that I touch upon in his project," he told our TapSongz Team.
We encourage all of our fans to give Check'a Fred's music a listen on SoundCloud if you haven't already! We can't wait to hear the full mixtape and love the progress that Check'a Fred has displayed over the last year. Check'a Fred's music can also be purchased in the iTunes link below! Definitely toss him a follow on Twitter as we can't wait to follow the rising rapper's journey throughout 2018. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
