Our TapSongz team loves finding new music and helping up and coming artists grow. We recently came across Corey Barlow and really enjoyed his sound. We had a chance to interview the rising artist to learn more about his past as well as plans for the future.
Barlow went to school a little northwest of suburb Cary, IL, near the Chicago area. "My dad being a retired Marine I lived in several different states and even Okinawa, Japan," Corey told our TapSongz Team. From an early age it was clear that Barlow had a love for music. "I was obsessed with Disney and Nickelodeon movie musicals and musical TV shows as a kid and wanted to be cast in one immensely." Barlow joined the 5th grade choir, but it wasn't until freshman year of high school where his choir director and mentor, Rob Boncosky, encouraged Corey to audition for a solo. "They believed in me and for that I am so thankful for having them in my life," he said. Barlow was a big fan of Michael Jackson, but also loves Beyonce, Ariana Grande, The Beatles, Elton John, and Queen.
Fast forward to today and Corey has made strides in the music scene, having recently released his first EP titled "Reinvention" on August 19. "Paul Bell, a family friend and my producer, asked me if I wrote music two summers ago. It was perfect timing because I had just started writing seriously." The EP is extremely well put together and definitely displays Barlow's full potential as an artist. "The EP goes through all of the different experiences I had then and lead to me learning how to love myself," he told our TapSongz Team.
Corey notes how live music inspires himself to be a better artist and discussed with us his favorite concert memory. "I had the wonderful opportunity to see Jon Bellion at Summerfest in 2017. He is absolutely incredible and so inspiring as an artist because his music is beautiful and deep, but he gives his audience a whole new experience during his live shows," Barlow recalled. Corey doesn't have any plans himself to tour in the near-term as he is focused on school, but would be ecstatic about the opportunity down the road.
As for next steps, Corey plans to release a few more singles before next summer. "I don't want to keep people waiting. I would love to release a lyric video for a song in 'Reinvention' or even film a music video for a new single! I'll keep fans updated on my social media pages." We are excited to see what Corey is able to accomplish in the near future and can't wait to follow his journey. Be sure to support Barlow by following him on Instagram @boreycarlow and Facebook @Corey Barlow and staying up to date with his latest releases. Big things are ahead for the Midwest artist and we can't wait to see what he is able to accomplish next. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
