The Chainsmokers, an EDM duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, have to be some of the chillest dudes in the industry. Their down to life personalities and sheer love for music have set them apart and thrown them into the spotlight. Our TapSongz Team nominated the duo as the February Artist of the Month and had the chance to learn more about their path to fame and plans for the future.
Taggart, originally from Maine, met Pall in New York City, where they both attended school. Neither of them studied music in school. Alex studied Art History and Business, while Drew studied Music Business. Growing up the guys had plenty of music inspirations, including Sigur Ros, Lil Wayne, Tupac, Calvin Harris, Kanye West, Dave Matthews Band, and many more. Music was important from the beginning for the both of them. “I’ve been making music since I can honestly remember.
My family kept an instrument in every room in the house so I really grew up surrounded by music quite literally,” Drew said. “Music has taken lots of different roles for me, whether it was playing in a band at a young age, making mixtapes or DJing. It’s just always been a part of my life, but played different roles,” Alex said.

The Chainsmokers began their career by releasing a variety of remixes to Indie bands. The duo really blew up when they released “#SELFIE”, a tune that was eventually picked up by Dim Mak Records. When asked what made the song so unique, the guys jokingly responded “Biscuits and Gravy.” The music video for the track is closing in on 300 million views on YouTube! Only weeks later Alex and Drew signed a major label deal with Republic Records. In August, they followed up “#SELFIE” with another original titled “Kanye”, which also became immensely popular.
Looking into the summer, The Chainsmokers are bound to be at some major events, as their presence at festivals has become a hot commodity. When asked what festivals they will be attending this summer they responded, “We’re not sure, we have confirmed a few awesome ones, but our agents inform us about this all in a couple of weeks. For now just heads down and finish music.” While the duo has been busy at work creating new music, they have enjoyed every step of the way and met some awesome artists. “Honestly everyone is so chill, but 3LAU, Adventure Club, DVBBS and Dillon are all such legit dudes,” the duo agreed.
Besides music, the duo had a hilarious response as to other hobbies they are involved with. “FOOOOOOD and TV!!! We f*cking love food and eating. We like to shop as well, but mostly eating. Later in life we will take up more hobbies like investing, skiing and surfing,” they said. As for their future in the music industry, The Chainsmokers recently released a new remix to Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne’s “Real Love”. “We are releasing our next single in early March. It’ll be our last record with Dim Mak and is a song we actually have been working on for a long time with this awesome Indie band out of BK. It’s a really cool feel good dance song,” Alex and Drew said.
