As we head into the final months of 2023, our TapSongz team continues to strive to find our viewers the latest and greatest new music across genres. We recently came across Gerard Lancaster and had the opportunity the interview the rising artist to learn more about his background, latest releases, and plans for 2024.
Gerard is originally from Columbia, SC, and always had a passion for music. "I started actually singing in my elementary school's choir when I was seven, but I started playing trombone when I was 11 and have been going ever since," Lancaster told our TapSongz Team. Gerard was heavily influenced by Notorious B.I.G., who was the first artist he had heard at a young age. "My other favorites growing up were Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Kirk Franklin, Fred Wesley, and Alicia Keys," he added. Gerard has been able to leverage these influences and utilize his passion to develop music of his own.
Lancaster has been keeping busy in recent months with a handful of new releases for fans. "The latest song I released was a cover of 'Treasure' by Bruno Mars and 'Remember the Time' by Michael Jackson. I was in a rehearsal one day and as I was playing Treasure, Remember the Time came into my head and I thought it was a great mix," Lancaster said. He reached out to his producer friend Rod King to put the music together. "He suggested a singer on the track and the first person I thought of was Katera. I have been listening to her music for a minute and always wanted to work with her and she came through and crushed it!" Gerard said. Our TapSongz Team was impressed with Lancaster's ability to stitch and entire song together and line up all of the pieces including initial creativity, production, and vocals, something that is not easy to do.
While Gerard has never been on tour, it is something he hopes to accomplish in the future. We think Lancaster has the talent and drive to make it there. Our team especially loved the rising artist's track "No One" featuring Corey Stone. The mix of instruments and vocals are on point and we loved how the track turned out. You can hear influences of Stevie Wonder in the tune, an idol that Lancaster calls the 'ultimate collaboration'. "He truly is a musical genius so to be able to learn and record with him would be great," Lancaster said.
Lancaster notes the music industry has shifted in recent years, with more artists going the independent route vs. a label. "Social media plays a big part in today's entertainment world so using that as a platform to promote your music makes it easier to do so. I think that the way the music industry is going is pretty good so far and as the times change, so will the industry. We must all learn to adapt to the changes," he said. We couldn't agree more.
Gerard plans to keep busy heading into 2024 working on brand new music including a new EP that he plans to release early next year, followed by a full album. We love Gerard Lancaster's refreshing sound and believe he has the talent required to reach the next level. We encourage all of our viewers to give Lancaster's music a listen and support the rising artist on social media. We look forward to hearing more catchy tracks in the near future and this is certainly not the last time you will hear the name Gerard Lancaster. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
