Glass Animals put on an incredible show at Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore, MD on October 15th. The indie rock band from Oxford composed an incredible set featuring hits from their album Zaba and as well as popular covers with a tribal twist.
The band has this incredible ability to transport the audience into a jungle-themed dream-like state. From the palm trees on the stage to Dave’s maracas and tambourine, every detail served to envelope fans in what the band’s sound truly is: an encompassing state of relaxation and expression.

Glass Animals beautifully translated their post-production heavy tunes into a creative and often surprising live performance full of unpredictable twists and turns, from Kanye West covers to singing with touching/wooing audience members.
The live performance certainly added much that would be missed from just listening to their album. Improved guitar riffs, off-the-cut intros and transitions between songs, lots of interaction between band members on stage, and a killer light show all elevated the experience as a whole to levels unreachable by the music itself. Dave took off shoes during intro of "Cocoa Hooves", saying he wanted to "feel very cozy" for the song. He was obviously comfortable and intimate with the audience.

The four-member band, Dave Bayley (vocals, composition), Joe Seward (drums), Drew MacFarlane (guitar) and Edmund Irwin-Singer (bass guitar), took the stage in front of a packed Baltimore crowd that included a ton of fans from nearby DC. They opened naturally with Walla W and Intruxx before moving into fan favorite Hazey. The set included Zaba hits Gooey, Flip and Toes. Black Mambo was a highlight – the energy of the crowd was unbelievable.
The band finished with Wyrd before returning to please the screaming crowd of well over 1,200 fans. The encore featured an incredible cover of Kanye West’s Love Lockdown (which was so experimental and heartfelt it was almost chilling) during which lead vocalist Dave hopped over the press divider and danced with adoring fans. Hit Pools closed out the show.

The band interacted with fans before and during the show. A number of concert-goers’ tweets received favorites or responses and Dave even took a pineapple from a loyal fan who picked up on the theme at a previous concert this summer.
Glass Animals is incredible on record but their live show really brought another element. Improvised riffs showcased the band members’ talents and their dancing – when the guitars jammed with each other or when Dave hopped up on the drummer’s platform – showed that they were having a really great time. The crowd was enthralled through the entire 75-minute set; fans will certainly be impressed by the performance.
Be sure to check out Glass Animals as they wrap up their Zaba Tour this fall!
