While 2020 has been a crazy year, it is refreshing to see artists push on and express themselves. DJ's, bands, rappers, and singer-songwriters have all shared new music to help fans cope with these challenging times. Our TapSongz Team continues to search for talented rising artists. One such artist we recently came across is LMDNA, a unique Australian artist with a super differentiated sound. It was so refreshing to hear something completely new and out of the ordinary. His new EP comes out August 17th and there couldn't be a better time to learn more about the rising artist.
LMDNA is originally from Perth, Australia. "I was never traditionally trained in music growing up, but at around the age of 15 I started messing around on garageband in my spare time - just figuring out what notes and rhythms sound good together," he said. Eventually LMDNA got Logic Pro for Christmas one year and was off to the races experimenting. "My artist name is LMDNA, which is a combination of my initials (LMD) and DNA because I've always been interested in biology," he told our TapSongz Team. "I initially was planning to study biological chemistry or medicine before I decided music was more interesting," he added.
LMDNA had plenty of influences growing up being into Sia, Troye Sivan, and Halsey. "For the majority of my high school / university life I've been obsessed with Bjork, SOPHIE, Rina Sawayama, Kelela, Shygirl, Arca, Yves Tumor, Charli XCX, FKA Twigs, Yeule, and many more," he said. LMDNA was able to use these influences and create his own music with the release of his first EP or real collection of songs he's ever put out. "I've always been a bit scared to put out the music I make as I know I have a long way to go, but earlier this year my friends persuaded me to do so." We think it is awesome that LMDNA is taking that leap of faith and letting fans hear his latest creation. "Thematically, climate change, transhumanism, identity, and mental health are present throughout the EP," he said.
Our TapSongz Team absolutely loved the EP sound. LMDNA has an EDM sound, but it is certainly not your standard EDM. Futuristic sounds are spread throughout the project with funky instruments, amazing vocals, and a whole lot of talent. "Fugue (Afterlife)" was one of our favorite tracks right of the bat. The vocals sound from the future and the electronic sound was super catchy. LMDNA has a very progressive sound and we love how unique his blend of sounds are compared to other artists in the space. "Searching, Wasting" was another catchy track that we absolutely loved on the EP. The song perfectly displays LMDNA's potential as a musician and producer who is clearly not lacking creativity.
Liam is only 19, but we were very impressed with his sound and understanding of the industry. LMDNA is independent which is important to him and we can't wait to see what he accomplishes next. He is extremely knowledgeable about the industry as well and noted how it has evolved. "Though the understanding, creation, and distribution of music has definitely become more accessible, it has also seemingly become harder to make a living out of releasing music. It feels like everything has just become more concentrated around the biggest artists and record companies, such that things are easier for the chart toppers than ever before, but perhaps worse for the smaller independent artists," LMDNA told our TapSongz Team. We couldn't agree more.
Everyone be sure to check out LMDNA's music on SoundCloud and give his brand new EP a listen! You will not be disappointed! We absolutely loved his futuristic sound and can't wait to hear what he releases next! Big things are ahead for LMDNA and we are excited to follow his journey! Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
