Production has become so advanced these days and it is always interesting to hear from producers how they manage to continue to develop such amazing sounds. They help give artists, rappers and singers an amazing platform to work off of. Our TapSongz Team recently had the chance to speak with Mista T Dot, an outstanding producer who gave us some insight into what his career has been like thus far behind the scenes as a producer.
Mista T Dot was born in Montreal and went to Toronto in 2001, which has a very unique music scene. "The music scene in Toronto is majorly diverse and rich in talent and I'm a very creative and innovative type of person so I feel I fit right in," Mista T Dot told our TapSongz Team. Growing up, he played the drums and sang in the choir, but his interests always remained in creating the music, rather than singing it. Eventually, Mista T Dot began DJing and even started MCing at some of the parties that his friend DJ Duck had been performing at. "I started DJing on New Years Eve 2010 and then I started doing production in 2012," Mista T Dot said.
Learning production is not an easy task. There is plenty to learn and get the hang of, but Mista T Dot was determined to learn the ropes. "I took a course at a studio called Noize factory. Mainly it was trial and error, lots of tutorials, and lots of research." Mista T Dot began working on remixes and even did his first R&B track. "I really got serious last year when I started doing bootleg remixes and R&B club bangers," he told our TapSongz Team. "That's how I started to create my unique sound and beats and it all came to fruition this year."

Mista T Dot picked up some momentum recently with the release of the track "Downtown Summer", where he collaborated with Mel Yelle to form the duo Melotika. The project was amazing and turned out extremely well. Fans loved the change up and the unique sound created such a positive vibe. Mista T Dot was looking to collaborate with a vocalist and posted an ad on Craigslist. "Mel was the first to answer so we met up and I showed her what I was working on. She liked it and wrote the lyrics to 'Downtown Summer' which captured exactly what I was aiming for," Mista T Dot recalled. By combining their unique talents, the duo Melotika was born. Mel Yelle had plans for that specific track and liked the potential. "I listened to it over and over and began composing. The goal was to create an original pop dance track. The vibe of the song reminded me of the 90's," Yelle said.
Mista T Dot has also had the opportunity to work with R&B singer Nina Browwn, an outstanding songwriter who was recently featured on our TapSongz website. "Working with Nina is awesome. I met her through Reverbnation. I listened to her other tracks and I reached out to her," Mista T Dot said. The two collaborated on Nina's track "Own It", an amazing R&B tune. "I was trying to bring a different sound to an R&B club banger and I believe it was achieved. Not to mention this track was tailored made for her and the lyrics blew me away." The project turned out extremely well and can be listened to below.
