The Mowgli’s crushed a show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC this past month. Co-touring with Lights, the band opened with Say It, Just Say It, which got the whole crowd screaming immediately.
Highlights of the show included hits Whatever Forever, I’m Good, and Shake Me Up. Cheerful ballads Love Me Anyway and Shake Me Up complimented the pop tunes Bad Dream and crowd favorite Hi Hey There Hello, which the band introduced as an old classic. The band members were so obviously passionate about their music and enthusiastic to perform. Their dancing and energy kept the crowd engaged and excited – the energy in the room was unbelievable through the Mowgli’s entire 80-minute set.
The seven-piece band, which started out as a group of high school friends, has grown to become a cheerful Alternative/Indie Pop group that strives to have a good time while supporting a number of charities. The message ubiquitous in The Mowgli’s’ songs is one of love, happiness and contentment.
Midway through the show vocalist Colin Dieden pointed out a fan in the upper balcony holding a poster, “Hey Colin - It’s my half birthday, too!” He mused that he was unaware that it was even his half birthday but thanked the crowd for giving him such a great celebration.
The Mowgli’s closed with smash hit San Francisco during which Colin traded lines with the crowd. The packed 9:30 Club joyously screamed the entire chorus whenever he held out the microphone.
