Constant lasers filled the night sky with smoke and confetti being propelled into the air. The dry, open field had never received so much attention and energy. Shouts and screams consumed the crowd as one drop after another created a magical EDM experience. Our TapSongz Team was lucky enough to attend Summer Set Music Festival back in August and there was one particular performance that stood out.
Flux Pavilion arrived at the Wisconsin festival from Slovakia only 2 hours before his set, yet his performance was nothing short of spectacular. Our TapSongz Team wanted to get the inside scoop from the DJ out of England on what we could expect from his next project. It is evident that he had a great interest in music growing up. “I’ve always been inspired by people who write good music. People like David Bowie and Frank Zappa because their music feels like it comes from them, from somewhere creative,” Flux Pavilion said. He used to play Beethoven’s 9th – Ode to Joy on any instrument he could find. Playing music was simply fun for him, but it soon became something much bigger and he went on to study music in college. “The best part was that it was a platform to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. I learned from the people I met through school more than the classes themselves,” Flux Pavilion told our team.
Flux Pavilion dropped an EP “Lines In Wax” which featured his hit song “I Can’t Stop” back in October of 2010 and really shot him into the spotlight. He then went on to drop his third EP “Blow the Roof”. The project consisted of additional hits including “I Still Can’t Stop” and “Do Or Die” which featured Childish Gambino. Flux’s music progressed and continued to use his bass-heavy dubstep feel to gain an attraction. He followed up his EP with “Freeway”, an EP that was released near the end of 2013. His hottest track “Steve French” featured Steve Aoki instantly became the focal point of the five-track project.

Performing and touring is without a doubt one of the young musician’s favorite aspects of the industry. “I love the reactions from the audience. I make fast-paced, reaction-heavy music. Every song has massive build-up and when that build up pays off and people lose themselves for a moment it’s a great feeling,” he said. As for choosing a favorite city to perform he had a tough time answering. “Choosing a favorite city is like choosing a favorite child. There probably is one, but you’re not going to tell them. It’s not fair!” Flux jokingly told our team. He was however very pleased with Summer Set as a venue and it was his first time attending. “It was mental – I was shocked at how crazy it was. You never really know what to expect, but Summer Set was a step above lots of shows I’ve played,” Flux commented.
In the next couple of months, Flux Pavilion has a lot in the works. He recently collaborated with Steve Aoki for a track and mentioned that he has lots of music getting written for a new album. He mentioned how important his manager has been along the way as he advances his career. “My manager is awesome. I was recently working on new music and trying to discover what I wanted the album to be. He said if you want to write Daft Punk style music, it has to be better than Daft Punk. If you want to write in anyone else’s style, you have to nail it otherwise it’ll be a rip off,” Flux said. “The only thing I can do that no one else is better at is Flux Pavilion. That sounds like a simple thing, but when you’re stuck in the studio trying to be creative, simple things don’t always come so easily,” he added.
Moving forward Flux has a pretty simple set of accomplishments for the future. “I want to be happy forever! One of my goals is to be one of the greatest human beings that ever lived – even if I only make it a little bit of the way, I’ve still achieved something,” he said. After seeing Flux Pavilion perform “I Can’t Stop” and closing his set with “Gold Dust” at Summer Set, we cannot wait for the release of his new album!
