After the success of “All American” back in April of 2012, Hoodie Allen is charging back into the spotlight with a brand new album “People Keep Talking” set to be released tomorrow. Nominated as the TapSongz Rapper of the Month for October, we wanted to give you an exclusive insight on Hoodie’s thoughts on the new project and what his plans are for the future. A member of our TapSongz Team was able to interview the young rapper before his show at St. Olaf in Minnesota.
“No Interruption” blew up last year and Hoodie was astonished at how loyal his fan base became. “I had certain goals. Those goals were far exceeded. I don’t think you can plan for that kind of support. It’s allowed me to work more consistently for two years until this new album,” Hoodie Allen said. Immediately after “All America” was released, Hoodie was back in the studio to create the next big thing. “The earliest song that was on People Keep Talking was made at the end of 2012. I released a mixtape in 2013, just a free project, but I have been working on the new album since then,” Hoodie said. The new project consists of features including MAX, Alex Wiley, and popular singer Ed Sheeran.
Hoodie Allen released four singles before the album officially debuts tomorrow. Each song has received rave reviews so far, and the album is expected to have a mix of slow and fast-paced songs. Since “All American” was released, Hoodie had a vision for how he wanted to improve. “I think the key to having a successful follow-up is for it to be just different enough for people to really see a growth, but not so different that it distracts from what people like you to begin with.” The new album consists of fresh melodies and strong production, while keeping the usual flow that Hoodie is accustomed to. “With People Keep Talking there’s a musical evolution. There’s horns, live guitars, live bass, it’s really full sounding, but it’s the same as All American from the core of what I do,” he said. Our TapSongz Team’s favorite pre-released track is “Numbers” so be sure to give it a listen below!
To conclude the interview we asked Hoodie about the best piece of advice that he has received along the way. “From the people I’ve always looked up to, what I’ve really admired is the people or artists who have remained their same, humble self. It’s important to be nice to everyone because that’s what creates longevity in this business. It’s not the most talented people who are around forever; it’s the people who people like to work with. That’s the realness of life and extends past music,” Hoodie said.
Hoodie’s “People Keep Talking Tour” begins in Detroit on October 29 and runs through December, hitting all of the major markets across the U.S. Be sure to check out his Tour Dates listed below to see if he is performing near you! Hoodie Allen’s down-to-earth personality and strong work ethic will only contribute to his success down the road. We encourage all of our viewers to follow Hoodie Allen on social media to keep up with the latest on the rising Hip-Hop star. Look for “People Keep Talking” in stores tomorrow and buy the album on iTunes to support the young artist. The Rapper of the Month has a bright future in store, but for now just sit back and listen.
