Despite these unprecedented times to kick off 2020, our TapSongz Team continues to search for new music. While much of the country is on lockdown, artists continue to release new music and prove to their creative side. We recently came across Robert R Britz, a talented pianist and creator of original music. Britz, who can go by nickname Brax, clearly stood out to our TapSongz Team. We wanted to dig in to learn more about Robert's recent releases and passion for the piano and music.
Robert grew up in a small town Park Ridge, a suburb of Chicago. "At 13 I went to a boarding college prep school in Ojai Valley and have stayed in California ever since and now reside in Palm Springs which is close enough to LA but gives me a bit of solitude to work and focus," Britz told our TapSongz Team. Robert knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue music professionally. "I had already been playing the piano since around the age of 7 and alto saxophone in school. I taught myself guitar and drums on my own," he said. There was clearly a passion for music and pure talent from a young age. " I probably started taking lessons at around 10 for piano and 11 for alto saxophone. I pretty quickly shifted from beginning classical piano to finding a jazz and rock style teacher which more emulated the emotion and style of the performers that I admired at the time," Britz added.
Growing up, Robert had plenty of influences led by Prince and the Purple Rain album and film. Early on Britz was impressed that one artist could "do it all". "What I mean by this is that since I was starting to learn multiple instruments I realized, beyond being mesmerized by the work, that I could in fact create entire songs or albums with my own abilities," Brax said. Robert notes that he also loved Michael Jackson and Guns N'Roses.
Fast forward to today and Britz continues to pursue his passion, looking to be differentiated and focus on quality, which we couldn't agree more with. "Currently, after taking a good listen at what was being primarily offered on SoundCloud, which was mostly digital and cut and paste type performances, which I think are great in their own way and I am in no way diminishing, decided though, to do something totally different," Robert said. So he took a chance to showcase his songwriting abilities and performance abilities all in one take. " I figured if the melodies where strong enough the beauty would shine through even in instrumental form. All the while not performing the entire instrumental versions of the songs but offering up shortened versions that take the listener and hopefully industry professional quickly into the heart and sole of the song," Britz added.
Our TapSongz Team loved Robert's method. We particularly enjoyed "Balinese Dreams", which can be listened to below as well as on SoundCloud. The piano is beautiful and the song was clearly well written, being hand crafted together. Another track that stood out to us was "It's on the Inside and I Want to Get Out". We love Brax's ability to capture the audience's attention right from the beginning and the piano instrumental short version is such a unique and cool concept. There is no doubt that Robert has found a way to differentiate himself in the crowded music space, which is impressive in and of itself.
While Robert has already achieved so much he is already forward looking. "My goals going forward are to continue focusing my attention on writing and practicing. I figure if you knock hard enough someone will answer as long as what your offering is quality in nature, it’s just a matter of time and circumstance," Britz explained. The songwriter will soon look to add in lyrics and vocals of his own - we can't wait!
Be sure to support Robert by tossing him a follow on SoundCloud and Twitter to stay up to date with his music and releases! We can't wait to hear more new tracks from such a talented songwriter and piano player. Furthermore, the idea of Brax sprinkling in his own vocals and lyrics into the mix really excites us. Robert has found a way to differentiate himself in a crowded industry and without a doubt he'll continue to gain momentum and new fans each and every day. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
