I have observed this time and time again. I am listening to a song with some friends, and an unknown singer starts electrifying the air with his or her golden pipes. Someone asks, “Hey, who is this featured artist?” This question is met with shrugs and a casual shake of the head because no one knows who is featured. However, Tapsongz recognizes the talent in up and coming vocal artists, which is why we reached out to singer/song-writer, Ruby Prophet.
Ruby was born in Hoofddorp, Holland, located in the middle of the country near Amsterdam. She started dance when she was four, and has also worked as a photographer. However, her main gig is music. She grew up listening to popular female lead singers Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, TLC, and Christina Aguilera. At age 10, her mom encouraged her to play the transverse flute. But after a year and a half, Ruby knew that her voice was her main instrument. Since then, she has remained in the pop scene, starting in 2008 as an emcee and vocalist in clubs in Holland. While there, she improvised as well as wrote lyrics to pump up the crowd. After two years of this, she began to venture further into the music world by writing entire songs.
Within the past few years, Ruby has been very active in collaboration with other pop and electronic artists. These features have led to a major increase in popularity and notice for the young singer. She worked with famous Japanese rapper M-Flow on an album that skyrocketed to number one on the J-Pop charts. She has also been featured with television DJ, Amir Charles, in his song, “Pandemonium,” and with two hard style DJ’s, D-Block featuring St-e-fan, in their song “Build this city.”
Most recently, Ruby collaborated with electronic artist, Audien, on two singles, “Circles” and “These are the days.” These two tracks have begun to open even more doors for the young vocalist such as other artists reaching out to her for future collaboration. In both songs, her smooth voice compliments the intricacies of Audien’s instrumentals. Her soprano voice ranges from soft and silky to loud and strong to match the dynamics of the music and gives a roller coaster effect to the music making it very fun to listen to.
Although her main work has been collaboration based, Prophet is currently working hard in the studio on her own E.P. She plans on always creating enjoyable music and getting on stage as much as possible. “I want people to hear my music and trigger their feelings towards my lyrics… I want them to dance to my music in the clubs. I want to perform and have fans that I can inspire and give them a special moment where they can forget about their problems when listening and watching,” Prophet said.
