The 10-hour music festival didn't disappoint with the popular lineup giving fans a little bit of everything. The 2014 lineup was stacked as fans packed the field area to view the main stage. Some of the stronger performances throughout the day are listed below:
G-Eazy took the stage at 1:30 with a bang, opening with one of his pre-released singles "Far Alone" from his upcoming album "These Things Happen". The up and coming artist played a variety of tunes, including his hit songs "Lady Killers", "Lady Killers II", and "Loaded". Of course, the young rapper had to perform his hit song from earlier in his career "Runaround Sue", but was still able to give the audience a glimpse of some of his new material that will be released in his new album.
Chicago's rising artist Chance The Rapper hit the stage later in the afternoon, proving to be a very popular performance. Fans packed close anxiously waiting to hear his hit tune "Cocoa Butter Kisses". Chance's performance was very animated and his three-piece band, including a horn and keyboardist, gave the music an authentic sound. While Chance's raspy voice may be an acquired taste, there is no doubt that every hip-hop fan found Chance's performance to be something special.
As soon as the applauds ended for Chance The Rapper, the crowd got rowdy as Earlwolf (Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler the Creator) rocked the stage. Tyler the Creator (pictured above) was everything fans expected, rocking the stage with energy and comical remarks in between songs. Popular songs "Domo23" and "Yonkers" were definitely highlights of the performance. The duo performed for a half hour before exiting the stage.
After a stunning performance from Nas, Wiz Khalifa hit the stage in fashion at 6:45 p.m. Wiz, who just released his new mixtape "28 Grams" yesterday, played a large amount of songs from his hit album "Rolling Papers", which was released in 2011. But Khalifa gave fans everything they could ask for during his hour-long performance. Some of his hits during the performance included "Work Hard, Play Hard", "Black and Yellow", and "On My Level". Khalifa even rapped his verse from Miley Cyrus and Mike Will Made-It's hit song "23" in which he is featured in. To close out his performance, Wiz threw down with "We Dem Boyz", a popular hype song that was released in February of this year.
Other notable performances during the festival included up and coming rapper Ab-Soul, hometown native Prof, and hip-hop group Cypress Hill. 2-Chainz was also a spectacular performance, bumping his hit songs "I'm Different", "Birthday Song", and "No Lie", while sporting his usual gold chain around his neck. And last but not least was Atmosphere to close out the night. The duo, who recently released their 8th album titled "Southsiders", returned for their seventh SoundSet appearance. The group's strong performance completed an extremely successful SoundSet event. Despite Pusha T dropping out of the lineup last minute, the music festival's sold out audience never experienced a dull moment.
