While 2020 is off to an odd start, many artists, whether it be bands, rappers, DJs or songwriters, are pushing through with creativity and releasing new music for fans. Our TapSongz Team continues to search for rising artists and love coming across fresh new music. We recently found The Hali Project, a talented band out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and had the opportunity to interview the group to highlight their new album!
The band formed about three years ago and thus far they haven't looked back making extensive progress during this time. "Coming from a band, all of us have our own little things like Celtic, punk, rock, progress rock, etc. We all love metal though," the group jokingly told our team. The band certainly wasn't short of influences and had plenty of artists they look up to. "The bands we like in general are probably AC/DC, Days of the New, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and Tool."
Using these influences the band has made strides and turned an idea and concept into reality with a brand new album "Weathervane". The team worked hard on the project with each individual contributing their own secret sauce to the final product. "Josh our singer-songwriter has written all of the lyrics and guitar melodies and the rest of us have added our touch. It's all about that rip'n harmonica though as we are trying something a little different with our leads," The Hali Project said. "It also pays to know people as our drummer Bruce introduced us to Pierce our producer at Pierce's Audio Empire, the two were school friends. Now we are all friends and have recorded in his studio," they added. Conveniently, the whole gang lives in the same city making it easier to put the final pieces together.
"Weathervane" is an outstanding project that is truly unique - a combination of psychedelic story telling and a heavy pounding acoustic blues / rock. And of course we can't forget the harmonica. The project kicks off with "Out At The Lighthouse" and takes you on a journey across all nine tracks. The songs are well-crafted together and the sound is coherent from start to finish which we loved. Our TapSongz Team also particularly enjoyed "Soulmate" which reflects some awesome vocals on top of a steady melody. Definitely give the full project a listen below!
While 2020 is off to a difficult start with many tours being cancelled or postponed, The Hali Project is excited about the future potential. "We haven't toured yet due to the virus, but we plan to next year. We all have day jobs including a Carpenter/Project Manager, Fitness Trainer, Mechanic, and Technician. So touring is tough as we get this band off of the ground," they told our TapSongz Team. The Hali Project is looking to make tour plans in 2021 and excitedly announced they're already recording a new album!
We loved The Hali Project's latest album and unique sound that helps them stick out from the rest of the crowd. "What we are trying to do is bring a new sound of an intricate guitar and story, along with a drum time signature like no other. We then top it all off with an electronic harmonica style like nothing you've heard before," the band added. We can't wait to see how The Hali Project grows in the coming months and are excited about the potential tour plans and upcoming album! Be sure to support The Hali Project by checking out their new album and tossing them a follow on social media so you don't miss their upcoming releases!
