She has childhood memories of her grandma coming over to her house and playing the piano. She would sit under the piano as her grandma gracefully tapped the keys, loving the vibrant sound. After having the opportunity to speak with Tiffany Houghton regarding how her music career began, it is very evident that music was part of her life from the beginning. “My parents said I was singing before I could talk,” Houghton said.
At the age of nine, Tiffany started writing after listening to Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. She attended Broadway Camp in New York where she was noticed by talent scouts as having big potential. Houghton auditioned for the Broadway play “Gypsy” and made it to the final three spots but did not receive the part. She went back to audition for tons of plays and even got the alternate spot for “Annie” on Broadway. Houghton was heartbroken with the news, but knew she had to change her ways. “I learned it is important to get back up when you fall. It’s the characteristic that has gotten me further than my talent,” she said.
Houghton went to Nashville when she was only 15 and instantly fell in love with the simplicity of music that the city had to offer. “I signed up for summer classes to graduate high school early. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to pursue music.” Tiffany spent two years in the city known for rising talent in the music industry and grew not only as an artist, but also as a person.
Things started to fall in place for Houghton in Los Angeles a couple of years later. It is clear that it was the best move for the direction of her music. Her management company, Crowd Surf, also specializes in digital marketing and works with artists like MKTO, Fifth Harmony and Britney Spears. She was given the opportunity to tour with MKTO in the summer as an opening act and loved the experience.

In recent months, Houghton has kept busy writing music and recently released a brand new project “This Is Not An EP”. The six track EP became available on December 1, 2014, and has been well received by fans. When asked about the title of the EP Tiffany laughed and explained, “It’s interesting in the music industry how much everyone emphasizes if you have released an EP. It’s one of the first questions they ask,” Houghton said. “I had only released singles individually throughout the course of two years, but eventually decided to compile the songs together into an EP. I have always believed in doing things differently and doing them on your own.”
With the start of the New Year, Tiffany has plenty of goals for 2015 including going on tour in the Spring and Summer and meeting more of her fans. “My fans are so important to me. They’ve been the ones to make it all happen and have given me such a good platform,” Houghton acknowledges. Despite a young career, Houghton has already had the opportunity to tour in almost every major city across the country, her favorite locations being in Chicago, New York and Boston.
