There are a variety of up and coming rappers who will soon be household names in the hip-hop industry. Here at TapSongz, we found a rapper who grew up in Compton that is showing signs of huge potential and will be making headlines in a matter of months. YG Hootie, born in Lynwood, California, is a Brick Squad Monopoly affiliate. He actually went to high school with Kendrick Lamar and has a big project ready to be released this summer.
Our TapSongz team had the opportunity to interview YG Hootie to get the full scoop on what he has been working on and what fans can be expecting from him in the coming months. YG Hootie began rapping in the 8th grade, having a notebook full of rhymes and verses. Growing up, 2Pac was a big inspiration and continues to be for the up and coming rapper. “It’s cliché nowadays, but coming from where I came from 2Pac just spoke to me and gave me drive and inspiration to do what I do today,” YG Hootie said. His love for rapping and creating music has only grown and soon it will become something big. “I love traveling around the world and connecting with so many different people – other artists, musicians, and people in general. I’ve never printed a business card, but people know my brand. I think that’s dope,” YG Hootie said.
In the past couple of months, YG Hootie has been gearing up for his biggest project yet and he gave TapSongz the latest on what his fans can expect. “I’m dropping my first formal retail project ‘Destroy & Rebuild’ early summer 2014. This is definitely the album that will catapult me into super stardom,” YG Hootie explained. In December of 2013, YG Hootie dropped a record off of the project with Kendrick Lamar called “2 Presidents”, which already has fans excited. In the meantime, he has also released a video with A$AP Ant called “36 Chamber Flow”. Both of his latest releases have created hype for his project to be released early this summer.
Despite keeping busy with preparing the project, YG Hootie still finds time to enjoy it all. “I love writing. Not just music but formal stuff too. I’m always jotting down ideas, thoughts, etc. I always aced English class in school. That was my favorite subject,” he said. During his free time, YG Hootie likes to study up the greats of the industry. He explains there is a blueprint to the game that has been laid out before he even started so he studies daily. He enjoys talking with fellow rappers and learning from them to improve his own projects. “I met Ice Cube one day at the studio. He’s a legend and someone whose music was always in the hood so I thought that was pretty cool,” YG Hootie said.
