This summer has been filled with loads of hot new music. One of our favorite parts of running the TapSongz music blog is following some of the earlier artists we came across and seeing their sound progress and grow. One such artist is Zenas from Cleveland, Ohio. We had the opportunity to interview him years ago and have stayed in touch to track his growth and latest releases. It was fun catching up with Zenas around his two latest tracks "Fired Up" and "Yours Truly".
"The songs were inspired by when I was playing Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption, and Red Dead Redemption II. I was playing listening to the instrumental and came up with the hooks and the verses came soon thereafter," Zenas told our TapSongz Team. "I went to Lava Room Recording Studios and laid down the track and the rest is histroy." We love the new tune 'Fired Up' which includes an awesome intro and builds up hype before dropping. The beat is extremely catchy and we love Zenas' smooth rapping over the song.
"Yours Truly" is another hot track that will have you swaying with the beat. "It was a beautiful complex melody with a simple two word hook. The beat changes halfway through the song and gives the illusion of slowing the tempo. It's actually the same tempo throughout the entire track," Zenas said. The track was featured on a Trapaholics mixtape in 2023 called The Trap Show 23. The tune can be found on LiveMixtapes, MyMixtapez, AudioMack and YouTube.
What we love most about Zenas is his work ethic - he is never satisfied and always working on his craft to perfect his sound. "Even though my fans love my work, I'm honestly already working on new music." The Ohio rapper believes demand for music is at all time highs and wants to 'strike while the iron is hot'. Zenas has been able to grow sonically and fashionably since our last interview with him in 2021. "Things I never would have worn or songs I would have never put together in 2020 or 2021 are all on the table. Looking at how I dress now compared to 2020 is very different, but not out of character."
