His music upbringing is rather interesting. Alan Walker never dreamed about pursuing a career in music or even knew about the possibilities of becoming a DJ. He was born in Northampton in the United Kingdom and grew up in Bergen, Norway. Growing up, he loved techno artists and was a big fan of bands like Coldplay and Green Day. “My family hasn’t had the biggest interest in music, but we’ve got a piano in our living room, which has been mostly used by my mom,” Walker told our TapSongz Team. “I had a lot of hobbies growing up. I used to be a big fan of football, but lost interest and started gaming.” It wasn’t until later on, when Alan Walker became interested in music production and since then, he hasn’t looked back. He spends all of his time in the studio and it is paying off.
“I learned music production by watching YouTube tutorials and I soon got in touch with other producers around the world that helped me a lot,” Walker said. It was in 2012 when Walker first started music production meaning it has been almost four years since he created his YouTube Channel and posted his first song. It has been a wild ride since. About a year ago, Walker released a single “Fade” on NoCopyrightSounds, which now has accrued over 77 million plays. The song became crazy popular and displayed Walker’s full potential. He followed up the song with “Faded”, which didn’t disappoint.
About three months ago, “Faded” was released on Walker’s YouTube Channel. It currently has over 52 million plays and it is gaining millions of plays per week. The momentum is just beginning. Walker recalls trying to one-up “Fade” saying “My goal for Faded was to reach out to as many people as possible, but the numbers that’s rolling in now is way beyond what I expected!” The track is incredible and can be found on iTunes. It is being bumped all over bars in the United States as fans anxiously play it on TouchTunes to hear the incredible track late into the night. The song begins with an amazing female voice, opening up the song gently before diving into an EDM adventure. “The singer with the world’s most beautiful singing voice is Iselin Solheim. I met her through a guy that I work with in the studio,” Alan recalls. “It was pretty random but it turned out incredibly good! She has a fantastic and outstanding voice that really touches you.”
It is now a snowball effect that doesn’t look to be stopping soon. Walker is gaining millions of plays and fans are starting to notice the amazing work that is being produced by the inspired DJ. Lately, Alan has been working on a lot of new music and has some songs that have the potential to be released as his next single. “My goals for 2016 would be to release more music and reach out to even more people, hopefully through travelling and performing live.” Walker already has plans to tour this summer so definitely check out his Facebook page for updates on shows and events!
Looking ahead, Walker still realizes there is plenty to achieve, but he is well on his way to a record-breaking 2016. He also hopes to work with some big-time EDM artists in the near future. “If I could choose any artists to collaborate with it would probably be Dzeko & Torres, Tiesto, Calvin Harris and of course one of the producers who inspired me to make Fade(d): K-391.” Definitely toss Alan Walker a follow on social media and stay tuned for his next amazing release.
