It’s not everyday that an artist gets a feature on Calvin Harris’ album. But Ayah Marar faced against the odds and became one of nine artists featured on Harris’ album “18 Months”, which was released in October of 2012. Her collaboration with Calvin Harris in the song “Thinking About You” became an instant hit off of the album and one of the top songs on the very successful project. Our TapSongz Team had the opportunity to interview Marar to get the inside scoop on her career and upcoming EP "Bass Soldiers".
Originally born in Amman, Jordan, Ayah Marar considers herself a London girl now. Growing up she was a huge fan The Beatles and then turned into liking a little bit of everything. She began listening to Hip-Hop, R&B, and Reggae as well as Dance music especially after moving to London.
Marar released her first solo single on vinyl in 2011 and has had a stream of singles since then, totaling over 30 songs including album features and writing for others. Her debut album “The Real” was released in July 2013, but it is Marar’s project in the works that she is most excited about. “I have a forthcoming EP called ‘The Bass Soldiers’ that will be released on my own label, ‘Hussle Girl’ this summer,” Marar said. She has been working hard to establish and promote her new label, which will ultimately be a platform for new music and exciting artists. “Any success that I get in the mainstream I want to use to put back into the underground scene that I love so much, and make sure that the right people are getting exposure while dance music is strong,” she added.
Few artists seem to enjoy performing more than Ayah, who takes in every moment on tour. While she loves going back home to perform at Amman, every place is special for a different reason to her and she always receives love wherever they go. “I could happily spend most of my life on stage, I adore everything about it. Most of all the interaction not only with the fans, but everyone who makes it possible, from light to sound to the MC and DJ on stage with me. I’s a family affair,” Marar told our TapSongz Team.
In the future, Marar will mainly focus on her new label Hussle Girl, although she loves writing and performing and will do it for the rest of her life. “The trick is now slotting it in among the new tasks I have to perform as a label manager and prospective artists and talent manager,” Marar said.
