Big Reeno continues to truck along writing, rapping and creating. Born as the youngest child, he remembers his older brother bumping a lot of old school hip-hop albums. “I was a shy kid growing up. I was by myself a lot and my best friend was a pen and paper. I started writing a lot of rap and R&B songs, eventually just focusing on rap,” Big Reeno said. Originally born in Nigeria, Big Reeno moved to North Dakota in 2006, where he attended college.
“I remember pushing my music on MySpace. I was sending out around 300 spam messages a day and gained about 10,000 fans,” Big Reeno laughed. He started to create a legitimate buzz in North Dakota, even opening up for The Game at a local show. In 2007, he attended a music conference in Miami, meeting with record label executives and producers such as Cool & Dre and Jimmy Kendrix who have produced hits for stars such as 50 cent, Jay-Z and more. These meetings inspired Reeno to keep pushing and go even harder to make his music dreams come through.

Following his return from Miami, Big Reeno released his first big hit in 2008, disclosing to TapSongz that the track “Brush It Off” was created in his biology class. “I was always 10-15 minutes late to class. I met my producer in college and one day he told me he had the dopest beat” Big Reeno recalls. “He’s not easily excited so I knew something was up. He played it for me in class and I was going crazy. I knew I needed to go hard on the track.” Big Reeno took the track to Miami to talk it over with execs. “They absolutely loved the track, but I didn’t follow through and was immature at the time.”
This past year, Big Reeno released an EP titled “Watch My Indie Throne”, which can be downloaded for free online. “I didn’t plan for it to come out the way it did. I was getting a lot of hate at the time. The first track I recorded was ‘Iron Man 3’. I seemed to be getting a lot of hate from fellow rappers and people who I thought were friends at the time. So the track 'Iron Man 3' was my way of letting it all out and dealing with my frustrations. It came out sounding pretty good and it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.” Midway through writing the project, Reeno had the opportunity to tour with Sean Kingston amd Taio Cruz in Asia. He also linked up with Kingston in the studio in L.A. where they created the track “Celebrate”, a popular song on the EP. It was even used as the theme song for the big rugby tournament in Asia. Other features on the EP include King Los, Dizzy Wright and Stevie Stone. “King Los is one of the best lyricists in the game right now. Shoutout to all of them for blessing the EP,” Big Reeno told our TapSongz Team. King Los collaborated with Big Reeno on their remix to Edward Sharpe’s “Home”, telling a creative story of how North Dakota will always be home to the rapper, despite where he travels.
Last year was a strong year for Big Reeno. At one point, he had three tours going on at the same time with Tech n9ne, T-Pain and Yelawolf. He also did some work with Machine Gun Kelly at the end of the year. At the beginning of the year, Big Reeno was not in the studio but after joining Chingy on tour in March and seeing fans become excited for his performances, he wanted to get back into things. The rapper is currently in the studio working on several singles. His plan is to release at least four to five tracks by the end of the year. Big Reeno just got back from meetings in New York this past week where he has been planning a Midwest tour, national tour as well as a college tour for the new semester. “I want to remind fans to support dope music and especially independent artists. I love giving fans free music, but if you love a song go buy it. Fans love free music, but at the end of the day it’s our jobs and songwriting takes time,” Big Reeno said.
