Our TapSongz Team has found a ton of quality new music so far in the first month of 2019. From rappers to R&B singers to new DJ's and bands, there has been a constant flow of new releases. We recently came across D Kirk, a talented up and coming artist with a lot of potential. Our TapSongz Team had the opportunity to interview D Kirk to learn more about the beginning of his career, latest releases and plans for 2019.
D Kirk is from Philadelphia, PA, and had plenty of influences in his early days. "My favorites were Fabolous, Chris Brown, LL Cool J, Nelly, and B Wow," D Kirk told our TapSongz Team. He began pursuing music his freshman year of college experimenting with DJing music and doing freestyles or open mic nights. His feedback early on was extremely positive so he wanted to keep the momentum going and see where it could take him.
Fast forward to today and D Kirk has built up a strong, reliable fan base. His latest project came about last summer. "It came together though being a person who loved the summer and really liked California and Hawaii vibes. I hope to live in one of those places one day and loved the idea of just dropping a dope record in the summer," he said.
Our TapSongz Team loved the track "Keep It Private" which was produced by Elevate. The track goes hard and D Kirk is able to perfectly exemplify his hip-hop potential combined with R&B. His vocals are outstanding and the track has seen a lot of success on SoundCloud hitting over 20,000 plays. His latest release "No Reason" is also a very well done track which features Mikey100K. The new release should set up D Kirk well for the rest of 2019. "I plan to do a tour and do local shows once my EP 'Oceans' comes out to the world. In the past I've done shows in Jersey, Philly, and Pittsburgh," D Kirk said.
D Kirk noted how the industry is constantly evolving and changing. "It has definitely shifted from more streaming via apps and online vs. CDs or TV countdown shows. I think gaining a social media presence is very key and important nowadays being active on shows, events, and blogs," he said. We couldn't agree more. D Kirk is a hard worker, having received his college degree in business and sports management. He's also a certified trainer. Beyond music, D Kirk hopes to start his own record label one day to help out other artists.
D Kirk's motivation and drive was inspiring to listen to and we can't wait to see what the rising artist is able to accomplish throughout the rest of the year. Toss him a follow on Twitter to stay up to date with his latest releases! The rising artist will look to continue his momentum from his latest release and we can't wait to hear his new EP!
