Our TapSongz Team continues to find amazing new music in 2019 and love hearing from up and coming artists. Whether it is EDM or rap or a brand new alternative band we love supporting fresh acts of all genres. We recently came across DJ Super Will who is currently just outside of Atlanta, GA, and loved his sound. We had the opportunity to interview the rising artist and learn more about his new EP out this week!
Growing up, DJ Super Will spent the bulk of his time in the Midwest, having been in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Minnesota. It wasn't until about college where DJ Super Will decided to pursue music, but he was familiar with the scene early on. "I've been a percussionist since the third grade when I convinced my mom to let me start lessons. As a musician, I've had the pleasure of playing with many types of musical ensembles from symphonies to rock bands, jazz groups, you name it," he said. The up and coming artist began playing wround with Logic, Garageband, Pro-Tools and Fruit-Loops to further get involved in music. "In college, one of my fraternity brothers who usually DJ'd our parties taught me how to use Virtual DJ so he could spend more time with females during our gatherings," DJ Super Will told our TapSongz Team.
DJ Super Will had plenty of influences early on in music. "I was basically into anything my family listened to, but I mostly liked Aretha, The Temptations, Tupac, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, and tons of others," he noted. The DJ prodigy has been using these influences to create his own masterpiece. DJ Super Will is dropping a brand new EP 'Cloud Island' on June 27. "It is a passion project that has been both my baby, and my burden for almost six years. Most of the tracks in the project besides 'Stylin' were started around 2013," he said. The artist out of Georgia noted that it was originally an eight track project, but he trimmed it down to five .
Our TapSongz Team had the opportunity to give the EP a sneak peak listen and loved what we heard. Track one features Lauren Long titled "Friend Zone". The beat is amazing and Long's voice is the perfect compliment the track. It has a retro feeling but we love how it came together. We also loved "Air" which starts off with a slow drumroll, before turning into a techno whirlwind. DJ Super Will's beats are so creative and we can honestly say we have never heard a sound similar. It is always refreshing to come across artists who differentiate themselves as so much of the EDM scene sounds the same nowadays. Finally, we also loved "Pan-dimensional", which holds a steady consistent catchy beat throughout.
If he could collaborate with any one artist in today's industry, DJ Super Will had an easy answer. "Diplo. Just to learn his work flow and thought process behind making tunes," he said. It is clear that DJ Super Will loves what he does and will continue to strengthen his sound and mature as an artist. We love the progress he has already made and can't wait to see where this journey takes him. He is willing to travel anywhere to perform and thanks his mom and wife for all of the support.
Be sure to check out DJ Super Will's EP "Cloud Island" later this week when it is released! Toss him a follow on Twitter to stay up to date for his latest releases! We already can't wait to hear more new music from the rising artist and look forward to seeing what he is able to accomplish next. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today!
