Echosmith performed at 9:30 Club in Washington DC on February 26th in front of a sold out crowd, the largest they’ve played for.
Joining them on the road is indie pop/rock band The Colourist. The opener’s real gem is their drummer Maya Tuttle, who had total command over the crowd and used it to keep everyone engaged and attentive. Maya also trades lead vocals with Adam Castilla. The combination of male and female vocals is most featured on hits “Little Games” and “We Won’t Go Home,” highlighting the group’s heartfelt lyrics and collaborative sound.
The members of Echosmith are siblings, and they certainly acted like it on stage.
The group killed title track “Talking Dreams”, ballad “Tell Her You Love Her” and new single “Bright”. They closed with double platinum single “Cool Kids” before returning for an encore.
Jamie, Noah, Sydney and Graham Sierota performed like they were best friends, and their energy and excitement helped the crowd stay enthusiastic. Their minimalist arrangement allowed Sydney to sing alongside guitarist Jamie and gave bassist Noah the space to run, dance and trip all over the stage. They also put sixteen-year-old Graham on a raised platform so that he was visible while playing his drums.
Although the casual listener recognized at most three or four songs from the group’s fourteen-song set, it was impossible to lose interest. Every member (except the drummer) had a mini keyboard and lead singer Sydney had a drum as well. These additions for the live performance highlighted the members’ talents and helped set them apart from other indie groups.
The concert was engaging and exciting and both bands have truly unique sounds. Be sure to look out for Echosmith on their tour from now until April 7th and internationally until May 12th!
