DC native Eric Hutchinson is a soulful pop artist who grew up in a family that was infatuated by The Beatles: “We had every album on CD and my mom used to quiz me on which Beatle was singing the songs.” He describes finally getting to see his musical idol, Paul McCartney, at a concert in London as "an unbelievable night."
Eric’s interest in music grew from this borderline obsession with the greatest band of the 60s – these surroundings encouraged him to start making up his own songs at age eight and pursue it for fun, though he didn’t take a serious approach until much later. His success began quickly: “I was selling CDs out of my college dorm room and strangers started knocking on the door, asking for the album. That seemed like a good sign to me.”
Despite producing numerous studio albums, Eric has little idea of what he actually sounds like – or who he sounds most like. His favorite artists currently are Vampire Weekend, Frank Ocean, Kanye West and Bruno Mars.
When not focused on music, Eric enjoys living in New York City, where he’s been for 10 years. He’s a real foodie – enjoying both cooking and eating. And he’s a movie buff: “I studied Film in college and I’m a huge movie lover.” He’s also a nerd: “I'm currently making a list of every movie I like since 1990 because I'm super cool.”
Starting September 14th, Eric will be out on his “Anyone Who Knows Me” Tour, which will feature his musical staples and promote his new album, Easy Street, out August 26th. He opened for O.A.R. at Merriweather Post Pavilion last week in an outstanding and engaging show (read our review here), so his tour is set to be incredible.
“Anyone Who Knows Me” will be Eric’s first headlining tour in 2 years and he’s “chomping at the bit to get out there.” In the interim he’s had the opportunity to open for artists including Kelly Clarkson, Pentatonix, Rachel Platten, Phillip Phillips and Josh Groban. On growing his fan base, Eric says, “Hopefully some of those folks who saw me will come out and see what I'm all about when I get to play for more than 30 minutes.” He describes his show as “a non-stop dance party with some jokes thrown in.” We agree – it was a ton of fun.
In addition to preparing for a 37-show tour and the release of his highly anticipated Easy Street album, Eric has recently started to produce records for other artists. He looking for another act to work with next and would like to collaborate with Kanye West (“And no, I’m not joking”). His goal with each of these projects is to keep growing and changing personally and musically.
Check out Eric’s music, get ready to download Easy Street, and look out for him on tour in the U.S. until November!
