2018 is bound to be an exciting year for the music scene. There isn't a better way to kick things off than with a brand new album. Greathouse Technology did just that. We had the chance to interview the rising DJ to learn more about the new project and plans for the rest of the new year.
The artist grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had a passion for music at an early age. "At eight years old, I got my parents to enroll me in Piano lessons and started learning theory and technique," Greathouse Technology told our TapSongz Team. He began listening to all sorts of music, even going back to the 50's, 60's and 70's. "Salt Lake is a place where there is not a strong identifiable zeitgeist of any certain musical style or scene. Because of that, it’s not unusual for people to like all kinds of different music and not have certain biases or prejudices about different styles of music.".
Greathouse Technology realizes the changes that have occurred in the music industry and wants to get it back to where it once was. "I want the general perception of EDM to go back to being a category of many genres, and not a genre unto itself," he said. "I want EDM to be a space where any sound is on the table. As an EDM artist, I don’t want to be confined to whatever is deemed the “EDM sound” at the moment. I want to be able to mix in elements of House, Hip Hop, Rock, Jazz," the rising artist added. We certainly understand his perspective on electronic music and the shift in the genre throughout the last decade. It is refreshing to see DJ's pursue a sound that they truly enjoy, not necessarily just to pursue a radio hit or mainstream sound.
The up and coming artist is excited to release a brand new album, due out at the end of January. He watched his favorite film Dune, which came out in 1984 by David Lynch. "I’d say my only goal for the project is to express, to Dune fans, or those who have never seen Dune, how I feel about the film, on a scene by scene basis. It’s a sort-of musical commentary on the film. If even one person enjoys the record then I think that will satisfy the goal. I’m giving away the album for free, when you register on my website, so I just want people to share and enjoy my expression of how the film made me feel." We think it is so cool that Greathouse Technology is giving away his album in return for one simple thing. Support.
For the rest of the year Greathouse Technology looks forward to collaborating more with other singers, songwriters and vocalists. It is special collaborations that make this industry so fun to follow. If there was one artist that Greathouse Technology could work with he said it would be Joel Zimmerman, or more commonly known as Deadmau5. "I’d love to work with him because he doesn’t hold back and tells people what he likes, and what he doesn’t like about their work, and he doesn’t sugar coat it. I like that kind of honesty from people whose opinions I value," the DJ said.
We encourage all of our viewers to give Greathouse Technology's new album a listen at the end of the month! Toss him a follow on Twitter to stay up to date with his latest releases! We are excited to continue to follow Greathouse Technology's journey as he continues to progress as an artist and explore new sounds.
