This week our TapSongz team was able to take a closer look at Katie Sky’s career and her latest hit with Timeflies titled “Monsters”. Born in Oldham in Lancashire, a county in the North West part of England, Sky had a passion for music starting at an early age. She began writing her own songs when she was 13 years old and recorded them onto a cassette. Growing up, Sky listened to Corrine Bailey Rae, Destiny’s Child, Coldplay and Natasha Bedingfield, all of whom had a strong influence on Sky’s youth.
So far in her career, Sky has released one EP and two separate singles and has enjoyed every step of the way. “I love showing people how my songs are supposed to sound live and you also get to meet all of the people who are buying your music. It’s the fans and the supporters that are the most important to me,” Sky told our TapSongz team. Her EP “Paradise” was released in 2011 and consisted of seven tracks. Her smooth voice is often compared to the likes of Lilly Allen and Ellie Goulding. Last year, Sky had the opportunity to do an intimate acoustic gig with Ed Sheeran, which she said was a fantastic experience.
Sky’s recent hit song “Monsters” with Timeflies has opened doors for the young and talented singer. “I’ve gotten to work with loads of new cool writers/producers and I’ve also been able to fly to the states a lot more. Going out there at the end of next month to promote ‘Monsters,” Sky said. Sky said the collaboration with Timeflies was an excellent experience, commenting “What a privilege it is to work with them! They are two very talented guys.”
There is no doubt that Sky’s career has taken off in recent months and the future looks bright for the young artist. When she isn’t performing or in the studio, Sky enjoys cooking, reading novels, hosting parties and camping. As for what lies ahead, Sky looks forward to new opportunities in the industry. “I want to continue to release music for myself as an artist, but also write songs for other influential artists. I’d love to do a headline tour sometime soon and I’d love to perform live on shows like Jools Holland or at The Brits,” Sky said. We encourage all of our viewers to check out Katie Sky on her Twitter and Facebook as well as follow her on YouTube to keep up with her latest releases! Here at TapSongz, we hope you have enjoyed this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow’s greatest music today!
