Everyone loves free music. There’s no denying it. This week our TapSongz Team had the opportunity to interview Laura Welsh, whose single “Break the Fall” is the iTunes free song of the week! We wanted to inform our viewers about the talented singer-songwriter, who currently resides in London, to accompany your free download!
Originally from Staffordshire, Welsh’s music draws from classic songwriters and a lot of soul music. “I listened to a lot of different music growing up, but artists such as Carol King, Prince, D’Angelo, and Lauryn Hill really resonated with me,” Welsh said. So far in her career, Laura has done a variety of gigs in the UK and London and is planning to come to play in the U.S. for the first time very soon! In addition to dropping her self-titled EP in July, Welsh has been keeping very busy in recent months. “I’ve been doing quite a few festivals recently with Gorgon City, Glastonbury was definitely a highlight. I’m playing Reading and Leeds Festival in August as well. I would definitely love to do SXSW next year too,” Welsh told our team.
Welsh released her new self-titled EP on July 8, consisting of four different tracks. “Ghosts” was the first song she wrote for the project and became a defining moment direction-wise for her career. “It was during a period of time where I needed to take a step back from everything and have the freedom to write without any opinions or expectations,” Welsh said. “I always had a vision for how I wanted the shape and feel of the other songs to sound, but I had to let it happen organically.”
Laura admits that while the project used the same tone and feel from a writing perspective, she had made great progress production-wise from her earlier songs such as Hollow Drum and Unravel. So far, Welsh’s EP has received great reviews and her song “Break the Fall” can be downloaded for free this week!
Throughout her recent tour, Welsh has really enjoyed performing for fans. Her favorite song to play live is “Soft Control”. “My favorite part about performing is just the freedom you have on stage. It’s the one time you can do whatever you want and let it go,” Welsh said.
While Laura has accomplished a great amount so far, especially this summer, she realizes there is still work to do and has high hopes for the future. “I have very simple goals. Keep working with great producers and writers, release music I believe in and play shows to as many people as possible,” Welsh said. She also mentioned it would be fun to work and collaborate with artists such as Flying Lotus and D’Angelo. We encourage all of our viewers to follow Welsh’s social media to keep up with any news surrounding the young, talented artist! Be sure to download her song “Break the Fall” on iTunes for free this week! Here at TapSongz, we hope you have enjoyed this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow’s greatest music today!
