While we may be well into festival season, one of the largest events in North America has yet to take place. The streets are being blocked, signs are being put up and chances are several of you have already started to pregame for this weekend's Lollapalooza held in downtown Chicago. The event is always a blast, but here are five reasons as to why you should get excited for this year's festival:

Spending a Weekend in Chicago

Aside from getting to see tons of great musicians all weekend, you’ll also get to experience all that the Windy City has to offer. What’s better than Chicago in the summertime? Not a whole lot. Before or after all of your favorite bands have performed you can explore downtown and go to museums, fantastic restaurants, hoppin’ bars and not to mention the great shopping areas. Or if you want to get away from the city enjoy the great views of Lake Michigan and chill at the beach. Just spending a weekend in Chicago is a great experience in itself.

Paul McCartney

No need for an explanation. How many times are you going to get to see one of The Beatles perform? As a member of one of the most influential pop groups in history, there is sure to be a huge crowd of all ages during his set. At 73 years old, Paul McCartney is still rockin’ out and will definitely deliver a memorable performance. Be sure to check out his set on Friday at 7:45 at the Samsung Galaxy stage.

Florence + the Machine

With all of her catchy ballads that you can’t help but belt out in your car, Florence + the Machine is definitely a must see this weekend. Her performance will surely feature songs from her album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, as well as her other favorites such as “Shake It Out” and “The Dog Days Are Over.” Florence + The Machine will take the Samsung Galaxy stage at 8:30 on Sunday.

Of Monsters and Men

Yet another can’t miss performance this weekend is Of Monsters and Men. Like Florence, this group also released a new album this summer entitled “Beneath The Skin.” With songs such as “Little Talks,” “Crystals,” and “Dirty Paws” they have something for every mood and occasion. The crowd at this show is sure to have a lot of energy so be sure to attend their performance on Sunday at 6:30 also at the Samsung Galaxy stage.

Surprises

Last year the talk of the weekend was when Rihanna took the stage to perform multiple songs with Eminem during his performance to kick off the weekend. Everyone in the crowd was stunned and thrilled by her appearance. It is hard to predict who may make a surprise visit this year, but one thing is for sure: it won’t be a disappointment.
