Here at TapSongz, our team has had an excellent experience writing feature articles on up and coming talent from a variety of genres and we hope you have enjoyed reading them! We have been contacted by many artists and will continue to post feature articles on some of these aspiring artists who have the most potential.
Our team is particularly excited about this artist as he has some excellent tracks out and his success story is just beginning! Basic Physics, originally from Madison, Wisconsin and currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is an up and coming DJ that will become a very familiar name in the near future. There was never a lack of role models and musical inspirations for Basic Physics growing up. He loved a variety of artists ranging from jam bands such as Phish and Umphrey’s Mcgee, to dance music and DJ’s such as Daft Punk, Pretty Lights and Girl Talk. Ever since he taught himself how to play the piano, drums and guitar in middle school, Basic Physics had a passion for music that showed great potential.
In an exclusive interview with our team at TapSongz, we were able to gain insight on how Basic Physics began his career and started to gain a following. His first major project was a mashup album titled “Lift Off”. He released it in February 2011 and it garnered over 50,000 downloads in just over three months. Basic Physics started touring in 2011 and his fan base grew immensely. He released his first remix of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” in April of 2013, which just broke through 100,000 plays on Soundcloud! Basic Physics has been hard at work in recent months and 2014 is looking like a very promising year. “Just recently (October 2013), I started releasing remixes and I kicked off 2014 with my new monthly mix Inertia. I also released my Counting Stars Remix which has been very well received,” he said. The Counting Stars Remix, originally created by One Republic, already has over 30,000 plays in less than a month.
As Basic Physics’ fanbase continues to grow, he’s happy to continue to DJ great songs and enjoying the ride. “My favorite part about being a DJ is performing live, meeting new people, seeing new cities, and sitting in between fat people on my flights,” he jokingly told our staff. During his free time, Basic Physics enjoys all things sports, exploring Minneapolis, seeing live music and tries to stay up on his favorite T.V. series. “When it comes to T.V., my favorites are True Detective, Shameless and The Walking Dead, but Breaking Bad will never be topped,” Basic Physics said.
Basic Physics has created popular remixes in the progressive house genre and fellow DJ’s and artists are taking note. He has had the opportunity to hang out with popular artists such as Hardwell, Skrillex, Deniz Koyu, Chiddy Bang, Mac Miller, and many others. “Everyone is so different and I think that reflects in their music,” Basic Physics said.
