As music grows and grows throughout the decades, we wonder if we can ever create complete originality or if music is just one constant evolution, growing off of previous music, artists, and genres. When it comes to the rock band from Nashville Tennessee, Moon Taxi, their songs prove that music can be both original and independent, but also influenced and inspired by past music. When asked if there were any artists, past or present that Moon Taxi sounded like, the band’s piano player Wes Bailey, responded with, “I don’t think there is one artist, but rather several influences working together all at once. We have a sound that is our own because of this.”
Moon Taxi loves sharing their music nationwide and touring has always been a highlight. “Since it’s near impossible to make a living just by selling your music, it’s great for us to get on the road and see some amazing places,” Wes said. Moon Taxi shares an exciting announcement that they will be in the studio in March to start working on their next full-length album. After their last album, Mountains Beaches Cities, which successfully got them added in the lineups of festivals such as Bonnaroo, Forecastle, and Lollapalooza, we can only assume that their next full album will be amazing.
Wes noted that his favorite place to perform live is New York City. “It feels like a career achievement when a show goes well there,” explains Wes. The band loves performing their hit song, “Running Wild,” because of it’s short, yet intense energy, and they love the rewarding feeling of seeing their fans sing along in the crowd. When it comes to plans for the future, Bailey kept it short, to the point, and confident. “We want to make our best album yet and let the world hear it.” We look forward to hearing updates on Moon Taxi’s tour and their newest album release.
