Nick Santino, former front man of the band Rocket to the Moon, has begun a very successful solo career as an alternative/indie rock artist with recent releases of his full-length album Big Skies and EP “Savannah.”
Growing up in Braintree, Massachusetts, Nick was heavily influenced by The Beatles, James Taylor and any music his parents listened to. He performed in bands throughout middle and high school including “The Bad Year” and “The Midway Class” before deciding to pursue music as a career.
Regarding his new EP, “Savannah”, Nick says, “I released my full length Big Skies earlier last year, so I’m still in the midst of that album cycle and wasn’t ready to make another full-length, but I am always writing and had a ton of songs written. So I recorded them in my attic in a makeshift studio. Because I’m not on a major record label, there are no real rules when it comes to releasing music, so it felt like the right time to put out an EP.”
His primary goal of 2015 is to tour as much as he can before putting together a backing band. He enjoys performing across the country, saying, “Any city is a blessing to play music in! It’s hard to pick just one. Hometown shows are always fun…so for me that’s Boston. Some other standout favorites are Nashville, Chicago, Orlando…the list goes on!”
Nick recently toured in Mexico with Hanson, a band that has helped him develop his passion for music: “I had the privilege of touring with Hanson back when I was in A Rocket To The Moon. They taught me how to make music my lifetime dream. Very inspiring and talented group of guys.” When asked about his favorite songs to perform, Nick said, “It changes from tour to tour, depending on the set list. I love it when the crowd is really into it and singing along. ‘Long Way Home’ is always a fun one for that.”
In addition to striving to “put out music that people will enjoy,” Nick expressed a genuine interest in his fans, saying that his favorite part of performing is “connecting with the audience. I like changing up my set and stage routine so it’s a different experience every night.”
Nick noted that as he has matured and become a more experienced songwriter and musician, his music has progressed naturally as well. He said, “I don’t think too much when it comes to making music. I try to write what I feel and let the songs speak for themselves.”
