World-renowned electronic dance music DJ Seven Lions brought his highly energetic set to his sold-out show in Bill Graham Civic Center this past weekend (read our preview here). Loyal ravers took full advantage of such an infrequent event, sporting hydration packs, LED gloves, hand fans and bejeweled outfits at the busy venue. The seemingly endless lines snaked all through the street in front of the door, which was conveniently closed off for the night. Despite the few opening acts, it was evident everyone was here to see the long-awaited Seven Lions.
The artist did not disappoint: tracks after tracks, he kept the crowd jumping and going. He played a combination of remixes and original hits, and you could see he was as into his own music as the crowd was. Even from the back, I could spot his long-haired head banging to the beats. Although the event was held in a large arena with upstairs seating, it still managed to give off large-scale EDM festival vibes.
At 11 PM, after playing for an hour and a half, Seven Lions thanked the crowd and retreated backstage. The crowd didn’t move and kept chanting for an encore. After a few minutes, he returned onstage to a cheering crowd, and played two more songs filled with long build ups and hard drops. When he retreated backstage again and the lights came on, ravers’ faces were full of smiles from the concert afterglow and frowns from reaching the end.
Overall, the concert was definitely of a high caliber, but the tracks contained so many repeated buildups followed by more drops that it seemed like there were few chances for fans to reset. That being said, it was certainly very impressive that Seven Lions managed to bring so many people together for an authentic rave experience in the Bay area. Definitely check out more of his tracks on his website!
