Our TapSongz Team loves finding and supporting up and coming artists who are working hard and present deep talent in a niche sector of the industry. Whether it be a strong alternative band, a talented songwriter, or a hopping hip-hop artist it is always fun finding new music. One such artist we recently came across is Smoove. We heard his music on SoundCloud and fell in love with his sound. We decided to interview him to learn more about his latest releases, influences growing up and plans for the future!
"I first started writing my own music when I was 11 years old. I came up with the artist name Smoove," he told our TapSongz Team. Smoove is originally from Detroit, MI, and had plenty of influences growing up. "I loved Tupac, Nas, Rakim, Biggie Smalls, and Michael Jackson," he said. Fast forward to today and Smoove was able to use those influences and put his hard work into original music. "Chronic Crisis and Criminal is my latest project I released on July 13," he excitedly told our team. The project is out on all major platforms and we highly encourage our viewers to give it a listen!
One of the tracks we really loved by Smoove is "Pimpogly". The song had an awesome, unique vibe that initially caught our attention. The production and sound effects throughout the song definitely help separate Smoove from other rising artists within hip-hop. The creativity was on full display and we love how the song turned out. Our TapSongz Team also loved "Blackman", another catchy rap song that will keep you engaged for over three minutes. This was a little more chill with a slower melody, but same amazing hip-hop voice. Smoove certainly would know how to move a crowd. "It all started with my environment. Where I'm from we smoke chronic to bare through the hard times and were looked at as criminals though we were not," he said. It is neat to see Smoove use music as expression to tell his story.
Being an avid hip-hop fan himself there was one artist whose performance really stood out to Smoove. "Kendrick Lamar was outstanding live. I felt his energy from the stage that motivated me to take my skills to the next level," he said. We couldn't agree more. Smoove hasn't toured himself, but has goals of performing in major areas including New York, LA, Atlanta, Paris, Detroit's Lil Caesar Arena, as well as Texas and Jamaica. One of the cool things about Smoove is his understanding of the industry and how things have shifted in modern day music. "Today the music industry is more harmonizing and singing than hard core rap, which gives us a balance and I think that's what hip-hop needs is a balance and form of expression," he said. "It can be very influential if the person is weak minded it could be a problem," he added. Overall, Smoove is thankful for the opportunity and wanted to shoutout his family saying "they're truly a blessing from God."
Be sure to support Smoove by giving his music a listen on all major platforms! We loved his brand new project released this summer and we think you'll love it too! Toss him a follow to stay in the loop on his next projects and releases! Big things are ahead for the rising hip-hop artist and we can't wait to see what he is able to achieve in the coming months.
