We recently had the opportunity to interview Samu Haber, the lead singer of an up and coming band by the name of Sunrise Avenue. The band is based out of Helsinki, Finland and the band members are eager to inform avid music lovers about their unique sound. When asked which artists influenced them the most, Haber stated, “In the very early days I really liked Finnish folk music and even schlager. After that I really started listening to the Beatles and later Bon Jovi.” Haber also believes that his songwriting style resembles that of many different styles of music. “I think the songs I write are a mix of everything I have heard in the past. At least I hope so. You kind of hear my Finnish/Slavic roots but also that I’ve been looking to the western songwriters all of my life,” Haber said. This blend of different music styles allows for Sunrise Avenue to produce a very riveting and unique sound. Haber has been exposed to music for a very long time, and has been playing the guitar since the age of twelve.
Sunrise Avenue has been producing music for many years. Their debut album titled “On The Way To Wonderland” was released in 2006 to most of Europe. Haber also loves the thrill and excitement of touring and performing. “The last moments before you actually step on and you have your stomach full of butterflies. There’s nothing better than playing live. Every time it’s a special and unique moment,” Haber said. Sunrise Avenue stays true to their music style and does not deviate from it. “We are normal guys from Finland and we play normal music for normal people”, said Haber. He continued saying, “We fought the typical way against the record industry for years and we had to visit 102 record companies to get ourselves a deal.” The band released a new EP "Lifesaver" in October of 2013 as well as a brand new album "Unholy Ground"! Our team really enjoyed some of their hits including "Girl Like You", "Lifesaver" and "Little Bit Love"!
Sunrise Avenue possesses the necessary tenacity to make it in the music industry. They do everything in their own unique way and stay true to themselves and their music.
