Back out on tour promoting their new album “Where’d Your Weekend Go?”, The Mowgli’s put on a fantastic show for a sold out crowd at Rock and Roll Hotel DC.
Interspersing old hits amongst their new content, The Mowgli’s connected a balanced set, acknowledging that some songs (“I’m Good”, “San Francisco”) are pillars in their journey and integral to their developing sound.
“The Mowgli’s” has become synonymous with “feel good” and “uplifting” in the conversation surrounding alternative pop music. Singles from the new album “Bad Thing” and “Spacin Out” are already poised to match smash hits San Francisco and I’m Good in commercial success, maintaining the delicate balance between bubbly pop and heartfelt serenade necessary to become fixtures in the indie pop circuit.
Their show was incredible – it was obvious that each member of the band was having the time of his or her life on that stage. They lovingly played through hits from Kids In Love, jumping along with the steady beat in “Whatever Forever” and belting the lyrics together to “Shake Me Up.”
“Where’d Your Weekend Go?” as an album explores the personal and musical development of each member of the band while maintaining their usual upbeat tunes and infectious enthusiasm. “Bad Thing” broaches the issue of continuing a relationship when you “know this ain’t the real thing” because “it’s better than being alone” featuring the group’s trademark cheer and unison chorus drop. The tagline of “Spacin’ Out” takes the listener to what’s probably a familiar place: “I was busy looking for forever in you while you were looking for something you already knew”.
Give their new album a listen and definitely catch The Mowgli’s as they wrap up their fall tour!
