The unique sound hits the eardrums like a combination of Walk The Moon and Andy Grammer. The Score may not be the most familiar artist in the Pop scene…yet. The duo consists of Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover. They met four years back in New York when a mutual friend set the two up and the band evolved. Dover and Anthony both started writing songs and producing music, eventually leading to their debut EP back in February 2014. “The sound was a little different. Our songs were played in Hollister stores and got us some attention, but the sound was too poppy. We’ve gone more an alternative sound since,” the duo told our TapSongz Team.
The transition in sound called for a transition in lifestyle, as the duo left New York for Los Angeles about six months ago after seeing many fellow producers and songwriters make the move. They entered LA in hopes of getting away from the stigma of a writer/producer duo and becoming an indie-pop band. “Pop music is so similar from a musical standpoint. A hit Rihanna pop song is really not all that different from an indie song. But the subtle differences are what can change the sound and put it in a completely different radio format,” the duo agreed. “We put Eddie’s voice through distortion that makes it sound like he’s speaking through an old stereo. We use more electric guitar and bigger drums,” Dover said. The changes seem to be working.
The Score released their hit song “Oh My Love” only two months ago, but the song has already compiled over half a million plays. It was actually the first song the guys wrote and produced when they came to LA back in October. “It was the first song we wrote with the new sound. I had the notes in my head. We thought it was cool, but didn’t know what to expect,” Anthony recalls.
The duo is currently keeping busy with the writing process and creating new material with high hopes in store. “We want to do 10-12 of our best songs possible, cut it down to four and release an EP within the next couple of months,” Anthony and Dover said. The duo hopes to release their new project by early summer and are thrilled about their new style and energy. They have been working with producers Captain Cuts, who worked on “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon as well as Peter Thomas, who has done several projects with Betty Who. “We want songs written so we can give a show that does justice for our fans. We have two awesome managers getting ready to book shows,” Dover said.
While Anthony and Dover would love to tour with Walk The Moon or One Republic in the future, their focus remains on creating quality music and releasing their new EP!
