We recently had the opportunity to interview rapper Vincent L. Calloway II, who resides in Boynton Beach, Florida. Calloway’s rap name is V.C. Da Menace, and he is constantly striving to gain traction in the hip-hop industry. Growing up in Palm Beach County, Florida, he did not listen to much hip-hop. “I was brought up on old school music; artists like Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Michael Jackson,” said Calloway. When he finally did begin to listen to hip-hop music, V.C. Da Menace stated his favorites were Eminem, Pastor Troy, and Lil Wayne. Calloway did not start to rap until 2012, and began to make and produce his own beats in 2013. V.C. Da Menace finds his sound to be very unique, saying, “I don’t really compare myself to other artists because I strive to have my own sound.” He did, however, mention that his listeners often compare him to Outkast rapper Andre 3000.
V.C. Da Menace has some very famous family that inspired him to pursue his music career. His father, Vincent, and uncle, Reggie, formed Midnight star, which was synth-funk outfit that was tremendously popular in the early 1980s. Their album “No Parking on the Dance Floor” ended up going multi-platinum. He stated that his father and uncle have been very influential on his music career.
V.C. Da Menace has currently released two mixtapes, “Truth Be Told” and “Family Ties”, which were both released in 2012. Both of these early projects were primarily for friends and family. He plans to release another mixtape in the near future, entitled “K.L.I.P. The Mixtape”. His most recent single “Leave Me Alone” was selected to be featured on ,“Barz Rescue: The Mixtape”, which is scheduled to drop on June 4th of this year. There is no denying the passion that V.C. Da Menace puts into his work and it is evident that the countless hours put into his music will pay off. “My favorite part about being a rapper is being able to share myself and my ideas with others and being able to create something that people can relate to,” he said.
V.C. Da Menace undoubtedly has the necessary drive and passion to make it big in the hip-hop industry. We encourage all of our viewers to check out his Soundcloud and other social media outlets to stay up-to-date with his newest music. Be sure to listen to his most recent song releases such as “Leave Me Alone” and his “Blood on the Leaves Remix”.
