Wild Child is a 7 piece, self-classified “indie-pop” band hailing from Austin, Texas. They’ve made their mark in the wildly vibrant live “music capital of the world”, winning “Best Indie Band from Austin” at last year’s SXSW Festival. Now, they’ve set their sights on higher ground, hoping to expand their sound to the east coast, starting with a performance at Brooklyn Bowl last night. I would strongly argue that Wild Child subscribes to a far more folk-style feel. With their newest album, “Fools” (2015), they are heavy on the happy-go-lucky acoustic sound, banjo plucking, and comfortably predictable harmonies. Wild Child presents a less-Southern take on Indie than many other big names in the genre right now: they’ve toned down the twee Sesame Street-style clapping and simperingly meaningless lyrics prevalent in other groups' records. If you like inoffensive, sweet music that will reaffirm your optimism, check out Wild Child for an easy listen!
