Our TapSongz Team continues to find fresh new music and talented artists as 2019 nears. We recently came across YUNG Citizen, a talented artist out of Charlotte, North Carolina. We had the opportunity to catch up with him to learn more about his past, recent releases, and plans for the new year!
YUNG Citizen's love for music goes back to when he was just a kid. "As a teenager I started making beats and while in college one of them got picked up by an artist known as Neako. That provided validation that I could produce something that an artist on a label could rock with," he told our TapSongz Team. Growing up, YUNG Citizen loved listening to Michael Jackson, Little Dragon, Flying Lotus, and many others which helped inspire him.
Fast forward to today and the up and coming hip-hop artist has made significant progress. He started a project "Millennial...The Un-American Dream" earlier in the year and plans to release it sometime in late 2019. "In the interim I am working with a local producer on an EP titled 'F.I.T.' The letters of the title stand for Feel in Tune. It will tell the story about the need to fit in and be accepted by the usual norms." We can't wait to hear more new music from YUNG Citizen. "Power People" is a considered a favorite amongst his fans which was released four years ago. We loved the upbeat hip-hop beat as the production is so fitting to YUNG Citizen's style. YUNG Citizen's team wanted to share "Power People", despite being an older song, because of the times we are in. "In some of the early music my songs and lyrics focused on issues affecting our communities and the nation as a whole. The focus of the track was understanding our collective voices do matter. The reality was never more true than today," the rising artist said. We couldn't agree more.
Our TapSongz Team also loved "Outkast" a newer tune that features Moonlander and Rob Flo. The track turned out great and we loved the added in features. The production is amazing and had us thinking of old-school Kanye vibes. Definitely be sure to give the track a listen.
Thus far, YUNG Citizen has performed at a few local venues over the past couple of years. "The venues are few and far between, but I want to give a shout out to Petra's Piano Bar, the Rabbit Hole, the Common Market, and the Underground at the Music Factory. I would love to do more shows as the opportunities present themselves," the up and coming artist told our TapSongz Team.
